Unique carved figures by Wilhelm Schimmel. The center object is said to be an owl. It was bought as a "sleeper" in northern New Jersey. There is some doubt about Schimmel carving the dog. Schimmel used various colors to make his carvings attractive.
Brass surveyor's compass made by B. Chandlee, Nottingham. Made about 1761. The instrument is 12 and 1/8 inches long and the compass is 4 and 5/8 inches wide by 2 and 7/8 inches deep. Courtesy Chester County Historical Society.

Tall case clock made by Joel Adkins in Middletown, Connecticut. It has a mahogany case and an "eight day" movement. His name is engraved on a plate below the number twelve.
Beautifully engraved clock dial by Daniel Burnap. this dial was for Burnap's own chime clock. It has a calendar device for telling the dates of days, a second hand, and on the top is a hand to select one of six tunes the mechanism played. Burnap's engraved dials are not comparable to the finest English products, but by Amerian standards he was an expert, and he engraved dials for other clockmakers.
