Summary
Thomas Barton was an Anglican minister. He was newly arrived in Pennsylvania, during the French and Indian War, when the British under General Braddock were defeated by the French in the western part of the state. The author of this article describes the resulting panic on the Pennsylvania frontier and the efforts to create a line of defense .Thomas Barton was an organizing figure in this effort. In 1758 British General Forbes led an army across Pennsylvania and defeated the French at Fort Duquesne in 1758. The author includes descriptive notes.
