Renunciations are papers filed in the Orphans' Court by executors of an estate who do not wish to administer that estate. They show the name of the decedent, the decedent's place of residence, the name of the person renouncing administration, the name of the replacement administrator to be appointed, and date. The relationship between the decedent, the executor, and the administrator is usually shown. Arranged chronologically and then alphabetically within each year.

John Henry Brown's career began in Philadelphia in 1845, where he painted most of his sitters. Brown often preferred to take daguerreotypes of his sitters and use those as guides for his miniatures, rather than having the person sit for him. He claimed it was easier to work from a small image than from a life-size model. (Smithsonian)

Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr detailing financial affairs. He has placed their bonds and Miss Hetty’s in the Safety Deposit Building in Philadelphia and the certificates in the Farmers & Mechanics Bank. A new Power of Attorney is required for Lehigh Valley Railroad to continue to issue dividends to the Misses Pleasanton, although he would prefer that a new Trustee be appointed to whom their securities could be transferred. He will prepare the letter to Mr. Demund soon. He has asked Mr. Johnston to bid on the sleigh with a $50.00 limit; and asks that someone be at Mr. Trout’s to receive things as they arrive. Gollden envelope with stamp but no postmark addressed to H. B. Swarr, Esq., Lancaster, Pa. On front of envelope: Edward Y. Weaver and her brother James B. Weaver; expecting the wines to sell well; hoping to meet with Mr. Howell in Laurel Hill; enclosing a note that Mr. Henry received from William and John O’Brien; planning to discuss the sale of the securities when he is in Lancaster; and having received the farm advertisements.
