Letter from J. B. Henry to Louisa Anderson stating that he misses his family; attended the Centennial Exhibition; sorry that Mr. Cassatt is spending too much money and that his family will suffer; Delia’s liver is all right; Alice is a terrible wreck but claims to be well now; likes Alice’s a Jessie’s husbands; will visit Uncle Edward over the weekend; seems to compare the Centennial Exhibition unfavorably with the shops on Broadway; did not bother to see Presidents Hayes and Grant; did not see Mrs. Stokes; and sends his best to Aunt Sidney. Henry to Louisa Anderson agreeing with her that they should be separated less often but circumstances might decide otherwise; Mr. Parker hasn’t written about his business trip but should when he reaches his home in Guelph, Canada; if he feels well he will embark on a two- to three-week vacation to Lake George, visiting Uncle Edward on the way; he will bring some of his goods to Staten Island to be shipped to Australia; asks about Henny Thieriot; likes matrimony; wonders if Mrs. Muney or Mrs. Meade will be at Lake George; implores her to exert her authority on Dody in a way to gain his everlasting respect; went to a party on a cool piazza and a moonlight row on the bay; mentions Mrs. Southgate and Mrs. Magruder. Henry to Louisa Anderson talking about being with his yacht all day; that Uncle Edward is well; Aunt is visiting the Lodis; Cousin Alice seems about the same; they wish he had brought her and the baby; Dody comes tomorrow for the weekend; has trouble keeping awake when company arrives; has not heard from Mr. Parker or Mr. Magruder; hopes Frank will tell James Davis that he would like to attend his wedding; and the birds are singing even as the morning mists hang on the fields. Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr detailing financial affairs. He has placed their bonds and Miss Hetty’s in the Safety Deposit Building in Philadelphia and the certificates in the Farmers & Mechanics Bank. A new Power of Attorney is required for Lehigh Valley Railroad to continue to issue dividends to the Misses Pleasanton, although he would prefer that a new Trustee be appointed to whom their securities could be transferred. He will prepare the letter to Mr. Demund soon. He has asked Mr. Johnston to bid on the sleigh with a $50.00 limit; and asks that someone be at Mr. Trout’s to receive things as they arrive. Gollden envelope with stamp but no postmark addressed to H. B. Swarr, Esq., Lancaster, Pa. On front of envelope: Edward Y. Weaver and her brother James B. Weaver; expecting the wines to sell well; hoping to meet with Mr. Howell in Laurel Hill; enclosing a note that Mr. Henry received from William and John O’Brien; planning to discuss the sale of the securities when he is in Lancaster; and having received the farm advertisements.
