Front page of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper depicting the swearing-in ceremony of James Buchanan with a general description of American inauguration oath above the large ambrotype of Chief-Justice Taney administering the oath as John C. Breckenridge and another figure look on. The back page shows an exterior view of the railroad station with well-wishers and an interior view of the reception within, with a commentary of the festivities and those attending. New York.~Copy 1 comprises pages 217-218 and 231-232 and is torn around the edges.~Copy 2 is the entire issue containing numerous pictures of Wheatland, his dog Lara, personal items, Buchanan in front of the national capitol (full-page) and four scenes in Lancaster.~Copy 3 is the entire uncut issue.

Custodial History
The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
