Swarr thanking him for his resumé of his latest correspondence with the Johnstons; saying that Mrs. Johnston has no power to prevent the removal of the papers from Wheatland and leaving the legal steps necessary to remove the papers to Swarr; denying that he and his daughter Annie left papers at Wheatland in confusion after sorting out important ones for Mr. Reed, although agreeing that they are now in confusion; noting the absurdity of Mrs. Johnston suggesting that increasing the biographical fund to $20,000 would in any way assure the rapid acquisition of a suitable biographer; and sympathizing with Mr. Swarr on having to correspond with such unreasonable persons as the Johnstons.
