Brooklyn, NY: Dodger first baseman Gil Hodges nears his team's dugout after he slammed a three-run homer in the third inning of the World Series opener here October 3rd to put his team ahead, 5 -2. On the welcoming committee are: Walt ALston, manager, left, Don Newcombe, pitcher, right and Jackie Robinson, second from right. Hodges' hit proved to be enought as the Brooks beat the Yankees 6 - 3.
