Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr
Description
Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr explaining that Judge Cadwalader is opposed to hiring Mr. Brown to search the newspaper files, because he feels that he will need all funds over the $5000 bequest for his own necessary expenses; adding that Judge Cadwalader declines to have anything to do with the $5000 bequest to Mrs. Reed; and that Mr. Swarr should consider this letter confidential. Title
Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr
Description
Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr reporting that Judge Cadwalader is still in the process of gathering, arranging, and digesting material, but hasn’t written very much because of his health and judicial duties, and so, regrettably, the biography will not be published during the centennial year; noting that his only surviving son Edward and his family are visiting from California; and asking for information about a W. R. Bierly of Williamsport, who is requesting access to James Buchanan’s early letters. Oxford Church Parsonage, Philadelphia.
