Representatives of small and medium-sized museums and libraries from every state, including Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, met with national leaders in the nation's capitol on June 27-28, 2007. The summit explored strategies for preserving endangered collections, harnessing new technologies, engaging the public in conservation efforts, and identifying funding resources.

Summary
"Pennsylvania Jeffersonians were the first American citizens to attempt to translate idealized speculations about democracy into a workable system of politics and governance. In doing so, they revealed key assumptions that united other national citizens regarding democracy and the conditions necessary for its survival. In particular, they assumed that democracy required economic autonomy and a strong measure of economic as well as political equality among citizens. This strong egalitarian theme was, however, challenged by Pennsylvania's precociously capitalistic economy and the nation's dynamic economic development in general, forcing the Jeffersonians to confront the reality that economic and social equality would have to take a back seat to free market forces.".

This journal article presents a letter written in German by John Andre to Eberhart Michael in Lancaster, PA. Andre had been a British Revolutionary War prisoner in Lancaster but had already been moved to Carlisle when he wrote the letter.(Andre would later become the British contact for Benedict Arnold in his attempt to betray Washington's army at West Point).

Why a place is saved and how it is interpreted to visitors has much to do with our collective memory of the events that took place there. Using the skills of an archaeologist and a historian, Paul Shackel examines four well-known Civil War-era National Park sites and shows us how public memory shaped their creation and continues to shape their interpretation.
