Henry to Louisa Anderson agreeing with her that they should be separated less often but circumstances might decide otherwise; Mr. Parker hasn’t written about his business trip but should when he reaches his home in Guelph, Canada; if he feels well he will embark on a two- to three-week vacation to Lake George, visiting Uncle Edward on the way; he will bring some of his goods to Staten Island to be shipped to Australia; asks about Henny Thieriot; likes matrimony; wonders if Mrs. Muney or Mrs. Meade will be at Lake George; implores her to exert her authority on Dody in a way to gain his everlasting respect; went to a party on a cool piazza and a moonlight row on the bay; mentions Mrs. Southgate and Mrs. Magruder. Henry to Louisa Anderson asking her to forward an enclosed letter of Ives to Mrs. Magruder; reports that he is better but still week; is having Horace Barber to have his small boat sent for her use; hopes to be there early next week; got her first card the same day she sent it. Envelope with letterhead, postmark less two stamps addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Hillside House, Hague, Warren Co, New York. Saratoga Springs, NY.

Letter from Louisa Anderson Henry to J. B. Henry expressing sorrow over Mrs. Magruder’s accident; Louisa is gaining strength and the baby [William] is doing well; Mrs. Pennelt paid a visit; Elizabeth is not good at finding a nurse because she sent a 19-year-old girl from another country who had been with Mrs. Outerbridge; doesn’t want to hire a woman who will leave after a brief time; asks him to find a woman in Annapolis and she wouldn’t mind “a nice looking light-colored woman” but not “a great big black woman.” Envelope edged in black with postmark addressed to James Buchanan Henry, Esq. Hotel Maryland, Annapolis, Maryland extremely faded. Stapleton. [11/12/1873] Date from envelope, context and perpetual calendar.
