Wilkes “tea fight”; mentions Miss Emily, the Ingrahams, and the parties of Mrs. Grims and Lady Napier; will get her a ticket to the Great Ball if she wishes; solicits her mother’s news in the next letter. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson looking for her next letter; hopes she enjoyed her last party; Picolomini is singing, but he is not going to hear her; visited her sister Emily but she was out; the Ingrahams told him that Mary and Miss Margie were coming to town for a few days; list all the parties he hates to attend including Miss Saunders’ ball; General Cass’s dinner; the Douglas’s ball; Mrs. Riggs’ and Mrs. Merricks’ ball; and a reception at the President’s; still has a cold; infers she is the reason for his appreciating life more; Dr. Dan is flitting about on the social circuit; hopes Dr. Dan will find a “sweet little aunt” at Belvidere; the Scharffs are enjoying married life; Bob Magraw returned to Baltimore; the Cobbs and others on the Rev. Cutter’s expeditions dropped in on the Scharffs; and James Buchanan Henry will take to Scharffs to a reception and a large State dinner. After usual greetings, says he has telegraphed her that they will be home on Thursday because of scarlet fever in the area; asks her to arrange for children’s care on a farm and is greatly concerned about the issue; is caring well for James and Ellen since Lulie has gone home; hoping that she can come back soon. Enclosed telegraph from Louis R. [Lege] that his baby has died of scarlet fever. Envelope in five pieces with postmark and three loose stamps [two from other envelopes]. Watch Hill.

Henry to Louisa Anderson wondering why his mail has not reached her; Will and he went to church in Bolton and spoke to Jack Thumb; thinks Mr. Thumb is a miserable person and would like to be his share in the house there; Will is a very good child even if he spilled blueberry pie on his pants; likes the hotel, the food (except the beef), the owner, and the guests, but not the mosquitoes; mentions Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler from Staten Island; dislikes the development around the lake; questions the slow delivery of mail; inquires about the household at home; recommends a “Bermuda colored man” to Miss Bleeker; inquires about Miss Taylor; and encloses a letter from Millie to Jamie. Envelope addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Garden City, Long Island, New York with postmark but stamp missing. Lake George, NY.
