Description
Blue wool nurse's cape from St. Joseph's Hospital. Made by the Royal Uniform Company in Philadelphia, PA.
Blue wool outside with stiff standing collar which includes "SJH" in gold sewn on both sides in front. 2 hooks for closure.
Front: 2 gold buttons (with seal of PA) on each side (4 total). Tabs with button holes on both sides to close front.
Company label: "R Royal Capes; Sign of Quality; Royal Uniform Co., Philadelphia, PA"
Owner's initials "MJS" sewn inside lfet, beneath a slot pocket chain in center below collar to hang cape.

Description
Contoured back with 2 curved seams and set-in panels at shoulder seams. Double construction with outer black ribbed fabric and lining. At waist level on inside center back seam a woven tape (1 1/4 inches wide and 30 inches long) tacked at about mid-way in its length. The ends attach with 2 hooks and eyes. Cape buttons (12) in front. Buttons appear to have been covered- parts of black covers remain on some buttons. 3/4-inch buttonholes on right front. Two tapered front panels measure 27 inches long. Bottom and neck edges trimmed in fancy tape of black cording or 2 sizes. Trim is 2 inches wide.

Description
Woman's cape. Black velvet with impressed pattern. When sewn, pattern designs matched at all 3 seams (back and 2 side seams). Round, fitted at shoulders with front closure, 2 large hooks and eyes, front collar and 4 inches below. Curved collar in back. Front edges and around collar trimed in black hair/fur. Fully lined in black with interlining/batting that gives the cape body and warmth.

Woman's cape with black satin material trimmed around collar, down front, and along edges with (3.75') black lace gathered in folds with bead-covered ball-like tassel accents. Long tail-like front, shorter pleated back. Cut up for under arms. Hook-and-eye closur (J. Walton)
1/29/2018 Black satin exterior and lining. Bell-shaped contour, curved shoulders flare with a gore/insert on front lower arms. These sections narrow into strips that are attached to a waist band inside the garment. Long panels (31" neck to base) form front opening. 7 hooks on inside rightfront hook inot black thread loops on left side. Neck, front opening and all lower edges. Black lace with dangling black bead globes (58) adorn edges, including collar. Braided hanger loop. Both machine and hand-sewing.

Description
Black cotton cape. Flocked fabric with flower design. Fur-like fringe around collar, down front opening, and around bottom edges. Mandarin collar. Open at front with mismatched button closures. Originally had fabric-covered buttons, now only one remains. (J. Walton)
Fabric has raised black velvet flowers agains a light background. Back is contoured; should caps are gathered. Front panel close with buttons that slide into buttonhole-slots on the inside right front panel. Buttons are not seen on the outside of the garment. The trim covers them. Trim on sturdy woven backing is 1-inch in sections of the 4 strips of black chenille. Two 2-inch tails dangle alternately from the top and from the bottom at the end of each section. The 1 1/2-inch wide edging is hand-stitched so it covers and matched the edge of the garment. Chenille trim is sittched ( running sitich) along all eges but the left center front panel edge. Lining is a brown cotton fabric. Seams' raw edges are overcast. Two (29 1/2 & 26-inch) lengths of black satin ribbon are sewn to the back at waist level.

Description
100 % wool, shower-proof St. Joseph's Hospital navy blue cape with red lining. Metal chain-link loop for hanging attached at back neck. Only pocket ( 3 in. x 3 in.) with red piping opening on inside left edge, 12 inches below neckline. Stiff collar (2.75 inches high) closes with two hooks and eyes at front & in yellow thread "ST. J. H." is embroidered on both sides. Two 6-inch navy blue tabs are fastened to front with brass buttons. Label sewn above maker label has three yellow initials in black & sewn together: "M.L.S."

Description
Black cape. Machine and hand sewn. Knitted fabric exterior. Darts for fitted shoulders. Black fabric with sheen on all edges: 7/8-inch band along hem, 4 inches from hem up front edges. Bands with 5 parallel lines of stitching also border edges of collar. Closure is 4 hooks and eyes at front: 2 at neck/collar; others at 2 inches and 4 inches below neckline. A fabric tab, 5 inches long, extends 1/2 inch from top left under two eyes. Cape is fully lined with a black satiny fabric. Appears to be hand-stitched into place.
