Crazy quilt constructed of primarily silk fabrics. No middle layer, Chain stitched using various colored threads. Backing made of Pillsbury Company flour bags. Made by Sarah Ann Huber and her daughter.
All cotton quilt, Lone Star pattern composed of pieced diamond prints on a white ground, itself pieced with many sections. Appliqued swags and beefy 8-point stars in outer border. White binding applied and hand-stitched back and front.
REFURBISHED: Lone Star, swags and small stars were later covered with appliqued solid pink cotton, apparently meant to salvage a quilt suffering from deteriorated original prints. Original printed fabrics underneath still visible along many edges of pink overlay. No quilting done on pink overlay.
Provenance
Found in Wheatland's collection with no identification.
Pink applique is a later "repair" covering all areas of original printed fabric used in lone star, swags and small stars. Original pieced prints visible through the pink overlay and are in unknown condition; presumed to be worn. Overall soil and browning from sun and acid burn. One-inch hole near swag; other scattered holes as well.

Red Cross Quilt of cotton has large red crosses pieced onto a field of white. The entire quilt top is covered with hand-inked names. A corner inscription reads: "This quilt was made during Aug.and Sept. 1918 to increase the treasury of Fulton Red Cross./ More than 954 persons contributed to its makeup./ The cost of the material was $7.00./ The amount collected for it was $130.00./ Lula M. Ambler, Chairman Quilt Committee."
Quilt, nine block design w/ stars, all cotton. Centerfield has 13-inch blocks set on point; all-white blocks alternate with blocks of blue 8-point stars on a white ground. Stars composed of triangles and squares, using a blue floral print with tiny white and red flowers. Centerfield surrounded by a border of three narrow strips (1.75-1.25"), white positioned between two blue strips, all mitered at corners. The inside blue strip uses the same floral print as the center, but the outer blue strip has a "pawprint" motif of white. Applied binding of white cotton hand stitched to back and machine stitched at front. Batting almost gone - residual clumps only.
Hand-quilted designs done in white thread: Diagonal and straight parallel lines, open blocks have potted flowers and half-blocks at perimeter have a flowering pineapple design. Many pencilled quilting lines still visible.
Overall good. Areas of brown to yellow acid burn, especially in and around come star blocks. Apparent dye transfer of blue print in some blocks. Scattered stains, some very dark brown.

Cotton quilt with 4-patch design, blocks set on point. Four-patch has two white & two print patches. Print has random ovals containing a remarkable portrait of Andrew Jackson within an oval done in brown tones. He is surrounded by eagles, stars, foliage and hanging fruit all done in browns, green, red & white on a light blue ground. Research suggests a circa 1830 date for this print.
Alternate blocks on point are a foliate print ground of dark browns with scattered white flowers, heart-shaped leaves and tendrils. Outer border, 7-7.5" wide, is a large-scale floral chintz of pink, green, white and a bright chrome yellow on a brown ground. Back is a white muslin, brought forward and stitched to create thin binding. Cotton batting.
Quilting done in white thread on an all-over grid with the same axis as the pieced blocks, but poorly aligned and stitching itself is not well executed.
Barbara Brackman writes in her blog: "Jackson portrait fabric may also (?) have been a campaign souvenir. This portrait of him in uniform harks back to the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812." She later notes: "The print was reworked for the 1976 Centennial."
Jackson is wearing a naval uniform with high collar decorated with frogging, large epaulettes with braiding, and prominent buttons down front. Brackman suggests this image is based on one of Ralph E.W. Earles' portraits of him.
Andrew Jackson was elected president in 1828 and served two terms.

Wild Goose Chase quilt of cottons. All white except for pieced triangles of solids and prints. Eight strips 3.25" wide are pieced with well arranged triangle colors in the same sequence except colors are staggered from one strip to the next. Sequence is red, yellow, green, pink, and brown. There are 5 different red calicoes, 1 yellow, 1 pink, 2 browns and 3 greens. The narrow triangle strips alternate with 7" wide strips of white. An outer border is 9" wide, all four sides.
Light cotton batting is broken up into clumps due to laundering. Densely quilted in white thread; a running feather motif meanders through border and plain white strips. Triangles have parallel lines. Binding is front folded to back.
Sound condition with expected areas of soil and stains, some fairly large liquid stains and multiple small brown stains. Acid burn along fold lines of back.
