Framed matted pastel portrait of Henry Kauffman ready to be hung. Frame has black enamel on edges and on quarter inch of top. Curved (inward) wood grained half inch and one sixteenth inch gold inner edge. One and one quarter inch beveled edge mat. Sticker: "Custom framed at: The Framery, Etc."

Charcoal drawing of a Union Civil War soldier in uniform (shirt, pants and hat) holding his sword in his right hand with blade flat across his torso pointing up against his left shoulder. A strap on his right shoulder crosses his body to below his waist on the left holding the scabbard. His left arm is akimbo. "U.S." is on his belt buckle.
The drawing is matted in pale pink and is in an ornate gold-painted gesso frame.

"Lancaster" is heading for a keystone with a young woman in a low-waisted yellow dress holding a wide-brimmed hat in her left hand. She is standing in front of a large red rose. "LEHammond" is printed beneath a stem with leaves below the young woman. "Pennsylvania" is printed at the top of the keystone and "The Garden Spot of America" is printed beneath the drawing, inside the keystone. 4 5-petaled figures outside the keystone: upper left, tall buildings; upper right, shocks of grain; lower right, church spires; lower left: airplane. In large black letters at the bottom: "A Healthful Place to Live." Printed at lower right: "Lucretia E. Hammond/ 541 North Mary Street/ Lancaster, Pa./ Sophomore/ S.H.S." Beside this, in pencil, is "1929."

NOTE: Zachariah's son was Paul G. Hayes (1890-1988), F&M graduate, Methodist minister and missionary who has an extensive archive at the Yale School of Divinity.
