Letter from James Buchanan to Harriet Lane enclosing $100 at her request and two letters, one of which he opened to learn of James Henry and his wife, and expressing disappointment with the engraving. He learned that Governor Hutchinson wrote letters to a private secretary before he became governor, not to the Home Secretary while governor. With envelope addressed in care of Mr. Charles Macalester, Jr., Philadelphia. Wheatland.

Henry expressing delight in receiving his letters from Bermuda; is uncertain of his plans and replies to some of his comments; Dody is getting along well; baby is not talking any better, but is sleeping without his bottle; Mr. Wright nor Mr. Gray will be pastor of their church, she thinks Mr. Hollingsworth will be; Mrs. Punnett does not want to move to California but would like to stay among friends; the Outerbridges had taken the Hogedorn’s house; the Despards are going to Brooklyn; the Proudfoots are have difficulty with Johnnie; has written to Alice; Virginia Dasidge has offended the Roosevelts and Frank is dropping her; and the Camerons might go to the islands.
