Description
Hem gauge or measure of ferrous metal, electroplated nickel silver blade with a sterling silver plated handle. Handle is a pierced foliate design with a rose at top. A heart motif is at center of handle. Blade extends form handle in the form of a ruler 3 inches long. Moveable clamp with pointed tip can be locked in place along gauge.
Possibly made by the Webster Silver Company. Inscription: Marked "STERLING" on both sides of handle with the Webster Silver Company mark alongside - a "W" on an arrow.
Provenance
Collected by Lillian Hollings Kiker, born to Scottish Americans who lived in New Jersey. Born (1912) and lived in New Jersey, last of Egg Harbor, she was active with quilting, sewing, knitting & crocheting. Collection inherited by donor when her mother passed away.
