Wheatland is the home of James Buchanan, 15th President of the United States and the only president to be born in Pennsylvania. Buchan was a bachelor and his niece, Miss Harriet Lane was White House hostess during his presidency. Here, Buchanan and Harriet Lane receive news of his election to the presidency from the front porch of "Wheatland" in June, 1856. The home is open to visitors.
