American Rococo Revival Walnut Sofa. The serpentine back centered by a rose and shell scrolled carved crest, the back joined to closed arms, with a serpentine apron and raised on cabriole legs terminating in casters, silk velvet upholstery.

Empire era maple side chair; scroll cut and carved crest with pierced hand-hold at crest. Rail with horizontal splat, upholstered seat terminating with cabriole legs.
This sterling silver coffeepot has a hinged angular and oblong shaped lid with a finial top surmounting a flaired angular neck adorned with a Greek key above a bulging torso. The spout is square with a goose neck shape and flat opening. The pot handle is angular and square with ribbed band decor. The pedstal style base is supported by four ball feet.

Rectangular top inset with brown/black leather. Molded edge, straight flat sides. Two longer sides have two drawers, each with two round concave areas with small knobs at center. Four legs with bun-and-cylinder turned feet. Legs taper down to feet with two buns terminating on the smaller bun foot.
a.(medal): Circular bronzed copper commemorative medal. Raised profile of James Buchanan in center. Around edge:"James Buchanan, President of the United States." Beneath is name of the designer, "S.(alathiel) Ellis. SC."
On reverse: Border of 3 layers of oak leaves and acorns with a striped shield at bottom center. In center above: " In/Commemoration/of the/ First Embassy from/ Japan/to the/ United States/ 1860" On right, beneath striped shield: "Paquet F."
b. Leather case for Buchanan Commemorative medal in the shape of a large coin. On both black leather covers and spine is a gold 3-line border that frames an eagle perched on a striped shield with arrows and olive branches beneath its clawed foot. 13 gold stars surround it and sprays of peonies are in each corner. The book opens to the back. Wood edges frame a circular holder for the medal. Peony sprays are pressed into all 4 corners of the velvet covering.

Lapboard received by Buchanan as an 1843 Christmas gift. Purchased by Mr. Lorman's great grandmother at an 1884 auction for Harriet Lane Johnston's household items in Philadelphia.
Mahogany veneered pine with 3-part recessed center serving area. Pressed glass knobs on drawers; left side round-front cabinet has bottle turn-table. Center and right cabinets each have one shelf. Supported by two ball feet in back and four claw feet topped with acanthus in front.

Samuel Ashmead was a botanist from the Germantown, PA area. He was the donor's husband's great-great grandfather. His passport hung in the donor's husband's grandfather's house for as long as she could remember.
Mrs. Lukens' husband, Arthur Thacher Lukens Jr., was the Govenor of the Mayflower Society of Pennsylvania. She said they met Mamie Eisenhower at Wheatland sometime in the late 1960s.
