Pair of white dogs with hand-painted faces: orange snouts, black noses, mouths and yellow eyes. Paws are also painted black. Gold dots on fur. Their collars and dog tags are accented with gold paint. They are sit facing the viewer: 'A' with head to left, tail to right; and 'B' with tail on right and head on left.
The detail on 'B' is finer with deeper lines overall (chain, fur, collar and dog tag)

Pencil and watercolor of the spring in Lititz, on age-darkened off-white paper, framed.
Artist depicts Lititz spring within a circle except for a fallen tree trunk and decaying tree at left foreground, leading the viewer into the circular-framed scene. Pool of water at center has stone wall behind with opening for water flow. Picket fence stretches across the background and the far distance is filled with open pasture and several trees.
Pencil drawing is colored with tones of gray and black.
Artwork has recently been reframed in an acid-free white window mat with an oval widow. Frame is colored gold with molded profile including a foliate design and a rope motif.
Artist has signed the piece at the bottom: "JA Beck." Julius Augustus Beck was the son of John Beck (1791-1873) and Susan Maria Kepple (?-1908), and he probably painted this piece later in life while a resident of Harrisburg. It has an illustrative quality and possible may have been used for publication. (Written by Wendell Zercher)

Generally bood; overall darkening of paper and horizontal buckling across surface. Small areas of surface loss across lower area. Dark circular burn at lower left (caused by acid burn from a knothole in former back board). Re-framed within the past several years with acid-free materials.
Pair of hand-knitted woolen stockings, worn by Amish women, called 'wedding stockings' Done in purple. 3-inch decorative top border with bands of red, purple and white. Scalloped top edge.
Within a 1-inch white band wide beneath decorative edge is a red "B B" and "1873" cross-stitched in red wool. Two red flowers with purple leaves separate date from initials.
Seam runs at back of calf from top to heel.
2 bands of red at toes.
Probably made for Amish woman with initials "BB", perhaps standing for a member of the Beiler family.
McCauley notes the popularity of knitting i American during the 1850s-1970s. "Patterns for knitting initials and dates into sock were published in women's magazines during this period and would have been available to the Amish community." (Wendell Zercher)

Pair of hand-knitted woolen stockings, called 'Wedding Stockings,' worn by Amish women. Done in a mixed blue-and-red yarn with two bands of white at top. White toes decorated with a single 2-row band blue-red yarn.
Top 1.25-inch is knit 2-purl 2 ribbing, .25-inch of white at top edge. Below ribbing is a band of white with 'CD' and '1876' separate by two sets of three all-red flowers. These are knitted into the stocking (unlike P.06.15.03). Seam runs at back of calf, from top to heel. Probably made for Amish woman with initials 'CD,' perhaps standing for the Amish name Diener/Dienner.
This pair of stockings is pictured in Decorative Arts of the Amish of Lancaster County, p. 96. McCauley notes the popularity of knitting in American during the 1850s-1870s. "Patterns of knitting initials and dates into sock were published in women's magazines during this period and would have been available to the Amish community. Good overall with multiple small holes near tops--moth damage. No visible wear or fading.
Quilted black petticoat worn by Tillie Loose Showalter (Mrs. Elias Showalter). Maker unknown.
Fabric is a black cotton blend sewn together in two layers with machine quilting done in blue stitching. Quilted with rows of horizontal lines of varying widths. Interspersed in lower section of garment are two bands of decorative quilting: running cable (or rope) and zig-zag.
Apparently home-made, the petticoat was quilted first before being joined in a vertical seam running up to opening at waist where fabric is gathered into a thin waistband. Although now torn out at both corners waistband at opening. It appears to have been fastened with a button.
Donor states her great aunt, Tillie Loose, was born in northern Lancaster County near Reinholds in the 1890s and she lived to age 94. She and husband Elias Showalter had no children. She is buried in the Swamp Reformed Cemetery, Reinholds, PA. Tillie was locally recognized as an excellent cook of Pa Dutch cuisine. She worked as a cook in local restaurants.
Provenance: Donor received petticoat from her mother, Mildred Loose Wenrich, who received it from her father's sister (Tillie Loose Showalter). Mildred's father was John Bensing Loose. (Written by Wendell Zercher.)

Minor soiling at lower areas (donor played with it as a girl); a 1/8" hole at inside of lower hem near seam and a larger torn-out hole 11" down from the waist; waist torn out/shredded where fastener (button & hole?) should be. About 1-inch section of quilting loss a bottom point of zig-zag.

The lower right corner is creased and partially detached. What appears to be an early sketch of the top of the bell tower can be seen to the right of painted bell tower. There are glue stains from a previous backing on the corners of the reverse.
The piece is currently mounted in hinged (on the left side) window matting and the area of the paper that shows through the window is slightly darker than the outer edges.

Watercolor on paper of "Plough Tavern. N.E. Cor. W. King & Charlotte. 1881." A 2-story gray stone building with multiple entryways, and green doors and shutters. A tilting lamppost is in front of the building. A sign for Charlotte Street can be seen at the corner of the building on the side facing to the viewer's left.
This building was apparently built in stages over many years, but the earliest elements were from 1745. It was demolished on April 1, 1924. (Written by Scott Sagar.)
There is some buckling along the top edge. Glue stains from a previous backing are visible on the corners of the reverse and have bled through slightly at the two upper corners.

Ink drawing over a pencil sketch of "Ye Fountain Inn- S. Queen St./ FD 1758" dated Nov. 1881. On lower right: "Lancaster. Pa./ Nov. 1881." In upper right corner there's a drawing of a sign picturing a fountain with "Fountain Inn" above it. Hanging below the sign: "Geo. Hastings."

The site is presently (2000) occupied by the Lincoln Hotel building.
The left corners are 90-degree angles and the right corners are rounded.
The edges of the paper are slightly browned and the upper right corner is torn off. Some brown markings are visible in the lower right area of the drawing, to the right of the signpost. There are the remains of a previous backing on the corners of the reverse.

Watercolor on paper drawing of "Lamb Tavern, West King St. Lancaster. Built 1747." A 3-story brick building on a stone foundation with a raised double entryway and basement entrance. The tavern sigh is posted on the sidewalk in front, showing a lamb with the word "LAMB' above and the name "J.S. KAUFFMAN" below. There is a date stone on the third floor that says "1747".
Beneath the drawing, lower right: "Co. Frazer's House."

Watercolor painting of "Franklin College-Lanc- (Restored)/ Lime and Orange Sts." , a 2-story structure. A path leads to 3-steps at the entry, a center front door. There are three windows on both sides of the front door; and 8 windows on the front second story. A fence on the right behind separates the building from some trees. There's a tree to the left of the pink building.
Ink drawing: {"Graeff Hall"-Lanc.Pa- rear of Shobens Hotel - N. Queen St.} Written this in pencil: "Reitzels Hall-" / built by Reitzel about 1830-" On lower left, in ink: "July 3.'82." The structure fronts a cobble street with a pump next to a flat paved area along the building. the roof and right end of the building are cracked and in disrepair. 10 windows with 12 small panes run across the 2 story. On the street level there are two hinged-doors on the right, and narrower doors, one on with sign of a large sign decorated with posters, sale notices and one sign across the top that reads: FR RYNE. The visible side of the building (far left of drawing) show a set of hinged doors in the center with two windows above and to the left.
Watercolor aerial-angled view picturing the lower right corner of the bed. Green fabric curtains are tied to the slender fluted wooden column beneath the top decorative gray wooden edging. A square wood portion of the column supports the cross piece at the foot of the bed. A white covering on the bed has pink stripes along its edge and a green flounce matching the curtains above hangs between the mattress and the floor. Printed in lower left corner: "BEDSTEAD/ YEATES' HOUSE/1879."
Watercolor of "Mirror/ Yeates Mansion/ Lancaster/Pa:-" In lower right corner is a letter embellishment "m?n:" and beneath it, "-1879-" Oval-shaped mirror hanging on the wall is edged ornately with gold-colored curved leafy branches. On the top at the center is a gold lamppost/ torch.
