This group of sixteen letters of unknown ownership and whereabouts were copied on 19 July 1937 by F. A. Henry, American Consulate, Melbourne, Australia. Whether he owned the letters is not clear.

Letter from James Buchanan to Harriet Lane agreeable to her spending more time in New York; objecting to her seeing Mrs. Brown on her return because she would be “exposed to the company of a person” whose name he cannot mention “with Christian temper”; saying he will not go to Havana or Nassau; feeling sorry that he cannot tell what Harry Magraw proposes; commenting on newspaper accounts of the history of his administration; expressing happiness over hearing from Dr. Gwen, who is in prison; admonishing her not to address her letters to “Ex-President”; and enclosing two letters “from a crazy lover of yours,” which he had opened. With envelope addressed to Harriet at 836 Broadway, New York.
