The 79th Pennsylvania Infantry was organized at Lancaster, Pennsylvania and mustered in for a three-year enlistment on September 19, 1861, under the command of Colonel Henry Augustus Hambright. Organized 1786 by the Synod of New York and Philadelphia. (An earlier body by this name had existed from May 1765 to May 1766 as an off-shoot of Donegal Presbytery). Was an Old School presbytery during the Schism; merged with the Presbytery of Big Spring (UPNA) in 1958 to form Big Spring (UPCUSA); name changed to Carlisle (UPCUSA) in 1960.
Organized 1732 by the Synod [of Philadelphia]; divided and dissolved 1765; continued in part by Presbytery of Carlisle. Reconstituted as Donegal in 1766 by the Synod of New York and Philadelphia; dissolved 1786.
