Black cast-iron firebacks. Two sides curved out. Six repeated panels of foliate-like design. Two shorter front side panels also have small wreath molded above.
Round, bowl-like base, rounded lip with curved, open, finger-handle ending in hole in which cone-shaped snuffer fits. Central candle holder, tall with 3 bands of 3 lines around. A vertical cut slot is on one side of the stem that has a curled lever to push the candle up in the stem as it is consumed by the flame.
Rounded square base with raised, flaring sides, rounded lip. Open finger loop handle in which cone snuffer rests. Round tubular candle holder at center on raised area. Has bands of line decoration and knob for raising candle. Also attached, small tab wit
Oval walnut center table with marble top and urn shaped center pedestal. Table skirt is shaped to conform to the marble top with a recessed channel just below the top of the skirt and a bull-nose molding at the bottom. The top portion of the pedestal is urn-shaped flaring outward to four ornate, scroll-carved cabriole legs. The pedestal continues beneath the outward curve of the cabriole legs with additional turnings terminating with a mushroomed centered finial. The legs feature foliate motifs with clusters of pine cones that terminate in claw feet.
Jacquard woven blanket formed by two layers of intersecting dyed and undyed fabric. It was manufactured, not hand woven, due to the size of the loom required and complexity of punching the cards to form the pattern. Blue base with undyed wool forming a floral design.with starburst and diamond alternating patterns in between. Green fabric tape found on edges. Design is reversed in color on opposite side. Center design is cluster of four rose plants. Border is a foliate vine with blossoms.
Supposedly owned by Harriet Lane when she attended Georgetown Visitation Convent. Unknown how it came to be in donor's possession. Donor's son and daughter-in-law posited that perhaps Charlotte A. Bauer (donor) received it from Mrs. Cynthia Westover Alden, who was a cousin by marriage to John Alden. Mrs. Cynthia W. Alden had many connections in the 1880s and may have received the blanket from Harriet Lane Johnston.
