Johnston explaining that the weight of James Buchanan’s tomb will be carried by an interior brick arch; asserting that the plan differs only slightly from the wishes of Mr. Buchanan, unlike the draft which he received from Mr. Johnston which is very pretty; and that H. B. Swarr and E. Y. Buchanan have approved the plan. Lancaster.

Letter from Nahum Capen to Harriet Lane Johnston referring to the forty letters that he had received from President Buchanan. The letters had been relayed from Mr. Reed to Mr. Curtis to Rev. Dr. Buchanan, who has unpacked 18 of them and not yet found the paper giving the conversation between President Buchanan and Col. Benton.
