Henry to Louisa Anderson detailing his delay in getting there; got Dody shoes, and tried to visit Cousin Lodi, Fanny Smith, and Fanny Randall; saw Miss Carver and saw her portrait painted by Indigiani; mentions cousins Alice and Anne, Mr. Crawford, and Mrs. Robinette and nieces; goes from Lancaster and Greensburg before returning to Annapolis; and sends best wishes to her parents. Envelope with stamp and postmark addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan, care of Dr. Wm. C. Anderson, Stapleton. Oxford, Pa., Sunday night [15 June].

Letter from J. B. Henry to Louisa Anderson commenting on her aunt’s letter stating that both mother and child are doing well; sent a letter to a friend enclosing a photograph; the German of Parker was successful and Jessie stayed until late; visited Miss McKenzie and likes her very much; shot a rabbit and partridge; sending her a paper from Orvis in Jacksonville who published part of James Buchanan Henry’s letter; and the economy is so poor that he will not fill any orders but hopes next year will be better. Envelope with postmark addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Care Dr. W. C. Anderson, Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. Both letter and envelope heavily water damaged rendering parts unreadable. Henry to Louisa Anderson describing a stroll around the area of Lake George where he is staying, including widow Wing’s brownstone house they had admired, prices in the general store for Aunt Sidney’s amusement, details of Lake House, where he is lodged; Dody is with him and taking lessons in French and addition; catalogs a number of guests he knows; misses his wife and children; and comments of the greenness of Gull Island. Envelope addressed to Mr. J. Buchanan Henry, care Dr. Anderson, Stapleton, Richmond Co. Both heavily damaged by water with parts missing. Annapolis, Maryland, 2 July [after 1877].

Henry to Louisa Anderson stating that he misses his family; attended the Centennial Exhibition; sorry that Mr. Cassatt is spending too much money and that his family will suffer; Delia’s liver is all right; Alice is a terrible wreck but claims to be well now; likes Alice’s a Jessie’s husbands; will visit Uncle Edward over the weekend; seems to compare the Centennial Exhibition unfavorably with the shops on Broadway; did not bother to see Presidents Hayes and Grant; did not see Mrs. Stokes; and sends his best to Aunt Sidney. Envelope addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, care Dr. Anderson, Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. Both letter and envelope moderately water damaged with some pieces missing. Philadelphia, [1876].

Letter from J. B. Henry to Louisa Anderson expressing sorrow that she is so weak after giving birth but he is looking for a nurse; weather cold and snowy; will try to find rooms for a getaway; is very pleased with the election in Maryland since Democrats made a clean sweep; comments on the Panic of 1873 in New York and elsewhere, both Parkers having great losses and he is shipping but a few fresh oysters now. Henry to Louisa Anderson saying that “the party” is delaying their trip to Currituck for a week because of events in Annapolis; visited Mrs. Magruder and describes her accident; might find a Black nurse for the baby; wants to see his family; gives regards to Miss Magruder; and asks about her bank account.
