Henry to Louisa Anderson expressing sorrow that she is sick and hopes she can produce enough milk for the their son; thinks he will look like her when a little older; upset that he has to leave for Currituck a day before the amateur theatrical in which “Mr. Randall & Mr. McIlvain & possibly Randy Hagner” will take part; Miss Susie wrote a nice letter and will with others spend a few days; frustrated that a nurse for the baby is so hard to find, his preferring an Annapolis woman to a Staten Island woman because the latter might get “house sick”; Miss Daly might be able to help; happy that she has heard from Cousin Annie, Harriet, and Alice; fears the economic conditions will get worse and the poor will suffer greatly; his business partner, Mr. Parker, is very gloomy about the future; ends on a melancholy note. Henry to Louisa Anderson talking about being with his yacht all day; that Uncle Edward is well; Aunt is visiting the Lodis; Cousin Alice seems about the same; they wish he had brought her and the baby; Dody comes tomorrow for the weekend; has trouble keeping awake when company arrives; has not heard from Mr. Parker or Mr. Magruder; hopes Frank will tell James Davis that he would like to attend his wedding; and the birds are singing even as the morning mists hang on the fields. Letter from daughter-in-law Alice Hoyt Henry to J. B. Henry welcoming him back from his travels; recounting her brief encounter with Rob in Jersey City; Reggie will join Rob for a trip; the Ewings and Alice’s family enjoyed being in New York; Jack is now in Camp Vicars with Captain Pershing (his great friend); both were not injured when picked up by a tornado and tossed forty feet; Jack is living with Colonel Pettit and family; hopes she and James Buchanan Henry can secure a permanent position for Jack nearer home; and recounts the unhappy marriage of Henry Randall. Letter dated 7/15/1938 from Alice Ewing to Mr. Bausman states that the shoes are valuable '...because it was the time when Japan was first opened to the occident by Commodore Perry.'
American Rococo Revival Walnut Sofa. The serpentine back centered by a rose and shell scrolled carved crest, the back joined to closed arms, with a serpentine apron and raised on cabriole legs terminating in casters, silk velvet upholstery.
