Henry to Louisa Anderson saying that “the party” is delaying their trip to Currituck for a week because of events in Annapolis; visited Mrs. Magruder and describes her accident; might find a Black nurse for the baby; wants to see his family; gives regards to Miss Magruder; and asks about her bank account. Center of pages badly water-stained. Envelope with postmark and stamp removed, left side badly water damaged, addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, care Dr. W. C. Anderson, Stapleton, Staten Island, New York. Annapolis, Maryland, Monday, [9 November 1874]. Date from postmark.

Description
Letter from J. B. Henry to Louisa Anderson lamenting his boredom, with the only excitement being the arrival of a steamer; his longing for a letter from her, even though the boat with the letter had trouble docking; replies to news from her letter including news of Dody, little Esther’s passing, her father Will Buchanan’s and Bib Christy’s grief; wants her to handle some financial affairs; wanted to go to other islands but the weather is too hot; made the acquaintance of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Smith of Watertown; hopes Mr. Gray is called to the church; Lollie Outerbridge reports that Mr. Cartwright is interim Pastor; mentions Mr. and Mrs. Butterfield and Terrie Roosevelt, the Murphys, Mr. Perrsett, Mr. Ball, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Magruder; the climate is warm and damp with little variation in temperature and many cloudy days; describes the island with its many plants, the results of a series of soundings showing that Bermuda is a coral island; is enamored by the variation of colors in the sea and of the scenery in general; hasn’t bathed in the harbor because of his rheumatism; sends greetings to her father, Aunt Sidney, Willie, Frank, his son, Miss Outerbridge; hopes to be home very soon. Envelope addressed to Mrs. J. Buchanan Henry, Care of W. C. Anderson Stapleton, Staten Island, New York no stamp, New York postmark; Per Steamship Carrissa in upper left corner. Letter from Louisa Anderson Henry to J. B. Henry saying she will send her letters; her father is better but Aunt Sidney is about the same; laments her station to be around depressed people, but she and Frank are trying to be cheerful; Frank’s practice is busy but not very lucrative; Mrs. Greenfield visits daily but is going to Lake George; the Misses Rhind drop by; Miss Kellogg is teaching the children manners, but Willie is reluctant to learn; is hiring a new girl for the month on Mrs. Mackenzie’s recommendation; send two letters and the article, all recommend should not be published; Frank has enough patients but their medical problems are routine; and sends love to Dody.
