B. Henry yet; calls M. B. Moses greedy for getting so many letters and answering them promptly; likes his church and its organ music; Miss Caldwell sits in the choir loft but Sally will not; the French teacher knows how to speak to the boys; Budd is an original and according to Budd takes great care of his beaver hat; [Deaffy] still is dumb and foolish; wants all the gossip about the ladies of Washington; Vallarino is in New York with his parents until the 4th of July; Mr. Fergus’ brother, the organist, died by suicide; the boys were given permission to go bathing but none would because of the heavy mud and many leeches; relates an “Irish” joke; and the Latin teacher entered the music room and made sounds of a trumpet with his mouth.
