Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson trying to quiet her anxiety over the many rumors flying about the date of their wedding; Mrs. Bright could be the culprit, but certainly not Harriet Lane; comments on Miss Margie’s supposed blushing; would welcome Mr. Taylor; and assumes her mother’s health is good since Mary made no mention of it in her last letter. Envelope with postmark and stamp addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. 142 Broadway, [New York], NY.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson apologizing profusely for his last letter after she reported that Harriet Lane had told Mrs. Bright the date and Mrs. Bright spread the news; he promises to write Mrs. Bright and straighten everything out; was happy she was not in any danger on the Rainbow and recalls her calm reaction when her father fell off James Buchanan Henry’s boat. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson apologizing again for his comments about Mrs. Bright and has apologized to her and hopes she will spread no more rumors; regrets their long separation and hopes to see her soon; asks after the McKims; is thinking of having Lieutenant Saxton as his groomsman and must have Bob Magraw and General Ward at the wedding; Mr. Scharff is much happier after marriage than before and James Buchanan Henry looks forward to the same fate; mentions the Misses McKim, Miss Emily, and Dr. Raines, who has just been granted the ferry lines in Rio, which should result in a tidy fortune for him. Letter from J. B. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson expressing happiness that both he and she have improved their health; has asked Uncle Edward to perform the ceremony probably in August since she preferred her uncle Mr. Nelson but wished not to embarrass her regular Pastor Mr. Davenport; must write “that letter” to James Buchanan to attend the wedding since his brother will be officiating; also wrote Harriet Lane, who denies telling Mrs. Bright about the wedding plans and promises only to say that the wedding will be sometime in the autumn; will ask Uncle Edward when he passes through New York after taking his son to West Point if he will be available either the first or second week of August. Envelope with postmark and stamp addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. 142 Broadway, [New York], NY.
