Swarr expressing sorrow at Mrs. Johnston’s exceptions to Mr. Swift’s excellent report, because now the unpleasant facts to which she refers will be more widely distributed; suggesting that payment to the other heirs be postponed until settlement of the threatened proceedings; approving the hiring of Mr. North and making arrangements for him to see the proceedings of the equity suit; and planning to meet with Mr. Preston of Boston who is strongly recommended by Mr. Capen to be the biographer of James Buchanan. Letter from E. Y. Buchanan to H. B. Swarr stating that he would certainly be present for giving depositions in connection with the exceptions to Mr. Swift’s report, were it not that his health requires him to avoid all excitement, but he will send relevant documents; denying that Mrs. Johnston offered to contribute double the sum that Rev. Edward Young Buchanan or James Buchanan Henry might contribute to the fund for the biography, but instead offered to unite with Rev. Buchanan or Mr. Henry in contributing equally the sum of $5000 each; and suggesting that the $5000 for the fund should properly remain in the estate, since it was mentioned in their second account which was duly confirmed.
