Description
Vasiform coffeepot has urn-shaped lower half and high attenuated upper half with tall hinged lid ending in an acorn finial. Round pedestal base rests on a thin, square plinth. Corners and/or edges of pot decorated with elegant fine beading. C-scroll wood handle with spur at top. S-curve spout ending with scrolled tip resembling head of eagle.
Engraved "EGD" on side for Elizabeth Gundaker Dale. Otherwise unmarked.
Provenance
Direct descent within Dale family to donor's husband. Family tradition states coffeepot was given by Samuel Futhey Dale (1773-1842) to Elizabeth Gundaker (1787-1830) as a wedding present in 1812.

Description
Letter of introduction from James Buchanan for Michael G. Dale, Esq. of Lancaster City. Buchanan explains that he has known Mr. Dale since he was a boy, and that his father, the Honorable Samuel Dale, is “of the highest respectability and worth.” Mr. Dale has proposed to find residence in the western states and has recently been admitted to the bar to practice law. 28 March 1838.
