This service bowl has a floral center painted in a naturalistic palette in shades of yellow, green, blue and tan within a gilt cavetto below a wide pink band within a gilt edge.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson commenting on the heat wave; hoping that she is not too tired after reading his lengthy letter; his boredom at having to chaperone his cousin, Miss S, even after trying to expound of the merits of General Ward as a love interest; and wonders why he has lost interest in everyone else but her; commenting on the praise Scharff heaped upon her; and hoping to persuade her mother to allow her to write more often. Letter from J. B. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson describing the difficulty in traveling from Bolton to Caldwell to retrieve her letter from the post office, and the resulting horrific time with a sailboat and a rowboat; describes in flowery detail the sunset; plans to start home in about a week; warns her of the dangers of horseback riding but “does not object”; did not see Mr. Schraff’s fiancée because she went to Chicago; promises not to commit an unnamed faux pas again; asks to be remembered to her mother and Miss Margie. Envelope from Bolton, NY September 6 with stamp removed addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. Bolton, Lake George, NY.
