Four post mahogany veneer bed owned by James Buchanan. Includes two sets of rails. Originals have carvings on top edge and hold multiple slats. Modern set accommodates modern box spring and mattress with iron supports.

Henry enclosing the latest bills from St. Stephens; comments on Admiral Dewey, an article about Harriet Lane Johnston, the death of Miss Hetty and Moncrief Proudfit, and the arrival of Mr. Kipling and family in New York; examinations are approaching; asks of he plans to have a reunion of his Princeton class on his birthday in 1903; comments on the golfing in Palm Beach; and dislikes the method used by the navy to promote officers. The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009.
