Henry expressing joy that he and Margaret are enjoying Italy and hopes to visit someday; had a family reunion in Washington with Aunt Lena, the girls, Frank, Sid, and Reg; met a friend at the Pittsburgh railroad station; in Cambridge to check of the small railroad shop; the drought has reduced the streams so much that the water is not suitable for the engines; hopes for a mild winter to aid in running the engines; Jean and Rob are settled in their apartment which Sid finds cozy; and is attending a “stag” party thrown by a good customer of the railroad and will be attended by “big bugs” such as the mayor. Henry to Louisa Anderson expressing sorrow that she is sick and hopes she can produce enough milk for the their son; thinks he will look like her when a little older; upset that he has to leave for Currituck a day before the amateur theatrical in which “Mr. Randall & Mr. McIlvain & possibly Randy Hagner” will take part; Miss Susie wrote a nice letter and will with others spend a few days; frustrated that a nurse for the baby is so hard to find, his preferring an Annapolis woman to a Staten Island woman because the latter might get “house sick”; Miss Daly might be able to help; happy that she has heard from Cousin Annie, Harriet, and Alice; fears the economic conditions will get worse and the poor will suffer greatly; his business partner, Mr. Parker, is very gloomy about the future; ends on a melancholy note.
