The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
Letter from Harriet Lane to James Buchanan begging him to visit her and take her away. She praises a concert given by pianist [Maurice] Strakosch and Miss Northall and urges him to purchase a piano like it. She advises him to direct his letters to the Marine Pavilion Rockaway to differentiate it from the town of Rockaway on Long Island. Signed Harriette L. Marine Pavilion [Hotel], Far Rockaway, Queens, New York City.

Two carte de visite images glued to notebook paper. Photo at top is Lillie Moore, at bottom is Julia Moore. The two were sisters and teachers at the Mount Joy Soldiers' Orphans Home in the early 1870's. Their father, John Moore, was steward of the Mount Joy Soldiers' Orphans Home.
