George and Rhonda Andreadis Collection of Lancaster City Records, Series 5 Lamps and Lighting
Description
The documents in MG0545 Series 5 pertain to providing street lighting around Lancaster City. Series begins in 1834 with the City Council receiving bids for oil to burn in street lamps and concludes in 1895 with an invoice from the Citizens' Electric, Heat and Power Co. This series also includes invoices for parts, payment receipts for various labors connected to the city power system, petitions to have lamps installed or removed, and bids from companies to receive the city contract to provide citizens of Lancaster with light.

The collection was organized and rehoused by JP, Summer 2011; finding aid typed by KR, April 2012.
Letter to H. B. Swarr from T. B. Baker concerning the purchase of the Pennsylvanian [newspaper] for $10,000, of which $1,000 was received from Mr. Swarr the preceding day, with $2,500 pledged to be paid in six months from undetermined sources; and noting that Sanderson was pleased with Packer’s message about the attack on federal officeholders. The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.

Copy of the list of contributors to the new stand of colors presented to the 79th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
"We, the undersigned agree to pay the sums set opposite our names ($1. each) for the purpose of purchasing a stand of colors for the 79th Pennsylvania (Lancaster County) Regiment of Volunteers, commanded by Col. Henry A. Hambright--to be presented as a testimonial of the high regard and esteem in which they are held by their fellow-citizens at home, for their admirable discipline and unflinching bravery at Chaplin Hills and Chattanooga."
The names have been recorded in the copy, they are not the original signatures and may not be accurate.
