(Written by Scott Sagar, 12/08/2000.)
This house was owned by George Ross, Lancaster's Signer, who purchased the property from a German farmer in the early 1750s. The house was razed to make way for building lots and today the site is marked by a monument.
The same building is shown in more detail in P.77.31.32.
Two significant brown spots appear on the left side, both a little over an inch in from the edge; one is 2" from the top edge, the other is 3" from the bottom edge. The entire left edge is slightly creased. Two small holes, probably made by a pin, appear in the upper corners.
The piece is currently float-mounted in hinged window matting.
