The Hager Store Collection contains anniversary booklets, invoices, advertisements, family papers, and newsletter of the Hager Department Store which was founded in Lancaster. Description
This collection contains receipts and invoices from the Pinkerton & Slaymaker business. The receipts date primarily from May 1851, with one receipt from May 1853, and are for a wide variety of items. The collection also contains letters from the Philadelphia & Lancaster Turnpike Company and an undated check from the National Bank of Pottstown.
Admin/Biographical History
Henry Edwin Slaymaker and William C. Pinkerton went into the hardware business as Pinkerton & Slaymaker ca. 1850. The store was located on North Queen Street in Lancaster. The business was closed out in 1857.

Description
The George Steinman Papers, Series 2 is a collection of original correspondence, documents, photographs, and ephemera primarily compiled by George Steinman. The contents of Series 2 represent Lancaster city and county events, prominent citizens, buildings, monuments, churches, cemeteries, schools, and businesses. Most of what Steinman collected relates to 18th and 19th century Pennsylvania, highlighting Lancaster and Philadelphia. One of the key events highlighted is the Revolutionary war; with documents and images related to Philadelphia, George Washington, the Atlee family, and General Edward Hand. There are images relating to the Christiana Riot and to various buildings in early Lancaster; including but not limited to the Old Jail, the British Prison, and Postlethwaite's Tavern. Also included in the collection is currency printed by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia in 1764, and Confederate States currency and bonds.

Description
The George Steinman Papers, Series 1 contains an album, compiled by George Steinman, with many photographs of buildings, tombstones, monuments and scenes of Lancaster city and county. Ephemera and newspaper articles are among the photographs. Represented in the album are Postlethwaite's Tavern, hotels and taverns, fire houses, the Conestoga massacre, churches, cemeteries, Ephrata Cloister, prominent citizens and their homes, Stehli Silk Mill, and schools. The four boxes contain orginal correspondence, documents, photographs and ephemera or and pertaining to the same subject matter as the album.
The George Steinman Papers, Series 2 is a collection of original correspondence, documents, photographs, and ephemera primarily compiled by George Steinman. Description
Reproduction of an [1862] campaign broadside. "To the people of Lancaster County! A few facts in the political history of Thaddeus Stevens." Written on behalf of George M. Steinman, Democratic candidate for Congress opposing Thaddeus Stevens. An 1843 letter written by Henry Clay to Rev. Colton, in which he expresses opposition to Abolition and supports States rights regarding the institution of slavery, is added at the bottom of the broadside.
"The people of Lancaster County have the case fairly stated, and it will be for them to determine at the ballot box, whether they will be any longer willing to basely bow the knee to the dark spirit of Abolitionism, which broods over our once happy country like a death pall, and saddle themselves and their posterity with a grievous burthen of debt to free and support in idleness four millions of negroes; or whether, by electing George M. Steinman, a pure and honest man, and a true patriot, they will cling to the Constitution and the Union of our fathers, as 'the shipwrecked mariner clings to the last plank, when night and the tempest close around him,' to use the language of the great Webster, and drive the foul spirits of disunion--Abolitionism and secession--'to the vile depths from which they sprung, unwept, unhonored, and unsung.'"
