Henry to Louisa Anderson asking after her health and reporting that his is very good; mentions the Thieriots and sermon of Caldwell but Bishop is better; describes several places for the family to stay if Louisa is well enough to travel, will await her decision; hopes the yacht for a friend is being shipped; asks for pictures of the children and describes the beauty of the night. Description
Letter from J. B. Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson commenting on the “fairy” setting around him; after taking a nap he and his friend jumped into the water to simulate falling from a capsized boat and later that day his sail boat capsized, giving him a second dunking with a resulting cold and sore throat; comments on the artists’ colony and the Thieriot family of New Jersey; Mr. Brewster and Dr. Porter are getting along very well; compares unfavorably the British celebration to the success of the transatlantic cable to the one held in New York; pleads for more letters from her. Envelope from Bolton, NY September 1 with stamp addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. In another hand: October 1st, My treasure. Bolton, Lake George, NY.

Henry to Mary Hagner Nicholson wondering why her last letter had a sad ring to it; does not want to return to the “hateful climate of Washington”; is happy that her sister Emily is coming to Lake George as part of her wedding trip but is sad he will not be there show her its beauty; the family Thieriot is prepared to love her when they meet her; gives his travel itinerary, stopping in New York to see Mr. Scharff and attend to business, stopping to see Edward Young Buchanan, whose family nursed him back to health when he was sick, and finally arriving in Annapolis for the weekend; tried to paint her a picture of Lake George, but has not painted recently. Envelope from Bolton, NY September 10 with stamp partially removed addressed to Miss Mary H. Nicholson, Care Col. Nicholson, Annapolis, Maryland. Bolton, Lake George, NY.
