Horatio Alger's fiction heroes had nothing on this smiling kid who learned to fight along the docks of New Orleans - from a penniless boy he rose to the top of the honor list of pugilism. Never has he knowingly been connected with a dishonest bout!) After New Orleans he moved to Brooklyn where he went to work in a kewpie doll factory! (Of all places!) He had his first pro fight at 15! And won it in one round. Since then the men he has whipped reads like the Who's Who of boxing. He surpassed the record of the immortal Fitzsimmons in winning three titles! Out of the ring he is perfect gentleman. His footwork on a dance floor is as good as it is in the ring (Unusual for a fighter.) Tonight if he doesnt' win from Lew Ambers he plans to quit the ring! A game little guy who has been through the Mill. Something to remember him by - won three championships - featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight. Scored the first KO in the present Garden. Has never won or last a fight on a foul. Let's give him a big hand.
