Description
Handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh to his daughter, Alice and "No.11." From Otter Island, South Carolina. Letter describes his "hope that this rebellion will soon be subdued," but "anxious to go and help take Charleston." Mentions several men in his command who are doing well and that the command as a whole would make Columbia proud.

Handwritten letter from Thomas Welsh to one of his daughters. From Waterford, Virginia. Letter expresses his pleasure at learning that Lillie has recovered from her illness, his disappointment at not being able to visit home, and provides some details of life in the camp. Text includes a description of the location of the town of Waterford, noting that the inhabitants are Quaker and friendly. Welsh expresses his disappointment in not hearing more from his family, but writes of missing his family very much.

Description
Handwritten letter to Thomas Welsh from his daughter, Mazie. From Columbia. Letter mentions various activities by various family members, including Blanton's birthday and an expected trip to Harrisburg for July 4th as well as pigs ruining the garden and an upcoming festival at the Lutheran Church. Mazie mentions the death of George Merrick and the circulation of a false rumour that the city of Vicksburg had been taken. She expresses concerns for the health and well being of her father and how much the family missses him. She concludes her letter with "an affectionate good by."
