Description
Buttonhook for gloves and collars. Made of stamped steel handle and heavy gauge wire loop hook at one end and oval shaped tip at other end. Mid-section of handle is flattened on both sides with raised letters: one side is "SOUTTER, BUCHANAN & YOUNG." and 2nd side is "FOR GLOVES AND COLLARS".
This Lancaster City business was Dry Good, Fancy Goods, Cloaks and Millinery. Listed in City Directories 1897-1909, then Buchanan & Young for several years, followed by Buchanan & Brown circa 1916. All at the same North Queen Street Address.

Description
One of two demitasse cups. Inside of cup is lined with gilt decor that extends over the cup's rim. The rim gilding connects to two vertical gilt bands and a band around the base forming a frame around varied handpainted landscape scenes; the cup handle is also gilded. The remainder of the outer body has a solid pink hue.

Notes
In 1995 the JBF staff assigned the Object ID W.95.69.2 to this Compote as a FIC probably because original paper records were not found.
In March 2023 the paper file has been found that identifies Lois Cassatt Thayer as the donor in 1935. Mrs. Thayer was the daughter to Alexander Cassatt and his wife, Maria Lois Buchanan Cassatt. Maria Lois Buchanan was the daughter to Rev. Dr. Edward Y. Buchanan, the youngest sibling to President James Buchanan.

James Buchanan, Jr. was the first born child to Reverend Edward Young Buchanan and Ann Eliza Foster Buchanan. He served as the Private Secretary to President James Buchanan, his uncle, after his cousin, James Buchanan Henry resigned the position in 1859.

Beaded purse with silk top, front and back have the same scene of a horseman riding up to a castle, two houses in background with the castle, a fountain in the foreground, below the scene is a border of white flowering vine on a blue background with small red flowers
Beaded drawstring purse. 5.5-inch long lower portion of bag is completely beaded with same scene on both sides: man on horseback riding on road toward bldgs. on horizon. Beads of many colors, including bronze metallic beads for windows, roof lines, flag, reins and pump. Bottom border of white flowers.
2.5-inch of silk fabric (sewn to beaded sack) has channel for drawstrings.

White cotton quilt with white binding. Creased and folder. Excellent condition. Very small orange stain on quilt.
Provenance
Jeannie M. Wine is the granddaughter of the quilt maker, Fannie (Young) Weaver.
Fannie Young Weaver married Elam Weaver. Daughter E. Jean Weaver, mother of the donor, married Reverend Jacob C. Wine in 1941.
Fannie (Young) Weaver is the mother of S. Clyde Weaver of S. Clyde Weaver Smoked Meats and Cheese.
The gift is given in memory of Elam and Fannie Weaver.

American Rococo Revival Walnut Sofa. The serpentine back centered by a rose and shell scrolled carved crest, the back joined to closed arms, with a serpentine apron and raised on cabriole legs terminating in casters, silk velvet upholstery.
