Wood walking stick or cane with silver tip and cap. Four panels with text alternate with four panels decorated with ornate leaves. 1.5 in metal band nailed on at the botton. One nail missing.
cap is engraved: "By the Union Fire Co. / No. 1 Lancaster PA / Presented to Rev. A. H. Shertz / Feb. 25th, 1865 "
Portfolio of medium brown leather, book form opening to inside with two expandable side pouches for holding papers. Interior is lined with a very dark brown leather. Front and back covers decorated with foliate designs witin lined borders created with wire stitching over a filler of heavy paper or leather. Designs are further embellished with tooled lines throughout. Top and bottom edges of folio are stitched.
Porfolio was owned and used by Blanche Nevin (1841-1925), Lancaster poet and sculptor.
Generally sound condition with considerable wear with some losses of decoration, ink stains scattered mostly on back and leather worn with some breaking at edges and fold. Darkened areas from handling.

Sheet iron sign with black background and .125-inch gold border. "Alex H. Hood / Attorney at Law" in gold letters. Paper glued onto back with the following in cursive handwriting in ink: "Alexander H. Hood/ Lancaster, Pa./ Studied Law under/ Thaddeus Stevens/ &/ admitted to the Bar/ 1844. - Died 5-24-1875"
Some paint scratched off on front revealing shiny silver underneath. Marred and scratched in spots. Some ruse. Paint worn off around 6 holes along edges.
