Letter from James Buchanan to Messrs. O. Barrett & Thomas C. MacDowell of the firm of O. Barrett & Company asking that they pay an old debt, especially since Thomas MacDowell, who was involved in the transaction, no longer works for the firm; the sum of $1,000 was advanced to Governor Bigler and another $500 advanced to Col. MacDowell. Wheatland, near Lancaster.
