Description
Stag horn, socket hinge with its pintle. The pintle is th emember attached to the door frame on which the hinge swings or pivots. The texture and symmetry of the hinge suggests hand craftsmanship. This style was used principally in Pennsylvania in the 18th century. Courtesy Metropolitan Museum of Art.
