Lease of East Orange Street property by Buchanan to E. T. Fisher, the eastern portion of which is occupied by J. M. Green. Fisher paid his rent through April 1869. On reverse: note in Buchanan’s hand on back of document. 2 page manuscript.

The James Buchanan Family Papers were collected by the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland. This collection was relocated from the Wheatland mansion to the LancasterHistory archives in the Spring of 2009. Digitization of the James Buchanan Family Papers was funded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, PHMC Appl ID # 201808013051, 2019-2020.
Insurance policy issued by Girard Fire and Marine Insurance Co., Philadelphia, for the amount of $3.60 that insured James Buchanan against loss or damage by fire for $900 on his double two story brick dwelling house on the south side of Orange Street between Lime and Shippen Streets, Lancaster. Countersigned by A. B. Kaufman, agent for the company. Philadelphia.

The Shober House, one of Lancaster's historic taverns built in 1765 at northwest corner of North Queen and Orange Streets. It was demolished in 1897 to make way for YMCA building built in 1901. This building in turn was razed in 1968 to become site of what was later the Hamilton Bank.
First Reformed Church, 40 East Orange Street at Christian Street, taken before 1866. St. Paul's Reformed Church at the white steeple in the background was then on the South side of Orange at Duke Street, now the location of the County Court House.
