Admin/Biographical History
The Henry G. Long Asylum was founded pursuant to instructions in the wills of Henry G. Long, President Judge of the Second Judicial District of Pennsylvania, and his daughter, Catherine H. Long. The Asylum was established to serve as a home for indigent single and widowed white women from Lancaster city and county. The Asylum's initial Board of Trustees was appointed by order of the County Orphan's Court on Aug. 20, 1900, and the first residents were admitted in June of 1905. https://researchworks.oclc.org/archivegrid/collection/data/54313152.
