Description
Black wool cape with 2 ornate black cord frogs.
Cape has finely over cast lower edge. Cape is fully lined with black wool with hemmed lower edge, tacked to outer cape every 8 to 15 inches.
Black wool collar with black velvet stiched to top side.
Underneath collar are two metal threaded pins that anchor metal ends with a chain for hanging the cape. This chain (3 inches) is inside at the neck above a label:
"JACOB REED'S SONS PHILADELPHIA"
2 ornate black cord frogs (7 inches in length) with a loop on the end to loop arouind a cord (2 inches). One on both sides. Sturdy hook and loop at neck.

Description
Blue wool nurse's cape from St. Joseph's Hospital. Made by the Royal Uniform Company in Philadelphia, PA.
Blue wool outside with stiff standing collar which includes "SJH" in gold sewn on both sides in front. 2 hooks for closure.
Front: 2 gold buttons (with seal of PA) on each side (4 total). Tabs with button holes on both sides to close front.
Company label: "R Royal Capes; Sign of Quality; Royal Uniform Co., Philadelphia, PA"
Owner's initials "MJS" sewn inside lfet, beneath a slot pocket chain in center below collar to hang cape.

Ella Rohrer married Philip Charles Efinger circa 1920. Ella attended nursing school at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, c. 1915. Philip served in World War 1 as an 2nd Lt. in Co. D, 56th Infantry, United States Army. Ella was a great-aunt of the donor, Richard Hauck.
