Photographs were taken in 2008, but Mr. Schaller's memories of the neighborhood from 1935 to 1948, from the age of 5 to the age of 18, are included. Mr. Schaller is an Armstrong retiree and grew up in the Cabbage Hill neighborhood.
Lancaster that Was article and photograph about St. Joseph's Catholic Church champion basketball team, 1937 - 1938. The team was sponsored by the Trees Normal Bakery, which was operated by Charles J. Trees, a baker for the Millersville Normal School, whicha gave the team its anme. The team plaed most of the prliminary games for the St. Joe's Catholic Church Big Five gmes. Team members are, front row, lef to right: Lou Giangreco, manager Vince Fittipaldi, Joe Nonn, Tom Frey, Dick Wolf, Frank Fischer and Jerry Trees. Second row team members were coach Kenny Trees, Herb Henkel, John "Chic" Souders, Clete Kirchner and sponsor Charles J. Trees.
