Description
Two dolls: one boy, one girl.. Both have porcelain heads, shoulders, and arms. Hair is molded on heads and painted to look blonde. Blue glass eyes. Stuffed cloth bodies and legs.
W.89.178.1. Male has molded head, painted light brown hair, straight with bangs. Brown eyebrows, fixed blue eyes, painted closed mouth. Hands and arms to above elbow are ceramic. Long-sleeved white shirt with collar and brown string tie bow at front neck. Red fabric with gold beaded band sewn on it forms straps to hold up black velvet knee pants. Cummerbund, wide on the belly, tapers as it wraps to the back where it is sewn in place. Narrow woven string forms a 4-petaled flower in front. This string is also sewn along the edges of the band/belt. Pants are sewn to fabric-covered legs.
W89.178.2. Female doll has molded hair, painted curly blond hair, open fixed blue eyes, closed mouth. 3/4-length sleeves (with lace sewn on edges) are sewn to a red vest with fabric-covered stiff cardboard front piece. Same red fabric, pleated at waist, for skirt that is gathered at top and machine-hemmed on three sides. A faded blue apron covers front skirt. Ceramic arms and fabric legs. Plain white petticoat on top of white underskirt with lace sewn around hem edge. Arms move up and down; legs are straight and move back and forth.

Female doll (.2) has a crack in her left shoulder portion, front to back. Old straight pins hold bodice in place. Red fabric has holes where threads are weak.
Did not remove clothing to see if any maker's marks on ceramic.

Description
Small German language clothbound hardback child's book with title stamped in gold within an oval: "Das goldene ABC. / zur / Nachfolge Christi". Green covers also stamped with outer border on front and back. Title page has gold printed title within outer border and decoration: "Das goldene ABC. / Fur unser Jugend". Large image of a seated Christ at center and "Pilger-Buchhandlung, Reading, Pa." below.
Inner pages have large Old English font letter on left page illuminated with scenes from the life of Christ and on right page a corresponding religious subject beginning with that letter of the alphabet, along with Bible verses and religious citations. The letters I, X and Y are not represented.
Inscribed in ink inside front cover is "Johnnie Sachs / Dec. 25, 1882". This was likely John Sachs, Jr. of Lancaster City, born 1874 (see file).

Description
Cardboard paddle in footprint shape has two flaps of pressed, colored paper in the form of a hatted frog, stapled to opposite sides. Makes clapping sound when shaken.
One side, on handle section is printed: "I AM CLAPPING / FOR / IDEAL ICE CREAM."
Dimensional frog heads are stamped: "Germany"

Overall soil and wear. Ink stains on both side of paddle. Considerable wear on both paddle and frog image, especially at top of hat and at bottom of paddle handle, resulting in partial loss of printed message.
