Summary
This is a short account of the effects of World War I on the city of York Pennsylvania. Since York had a large number of citizens of German descent, there was concern that those citizens' loyalty to the United States might be doubted during the conflict with Germany. German was often spoken in churches and schools and some residents still had family in Germany. The book points out how support for the war and patriotism in general remained high and was demonstrated in a number of ways.
